Today Virgin Mobile announced they will begin offering the iPhone 5 on June 28, according to PCMag.com.
The mobile carrier will offer the black and white handset along with Beyond Talk plans from Virgin Mobile. Users can get “unlimited” data—3G and 4G LTE—for as low as $35 per month. (The unlimited is in quotes because, according to PCMag, once you use 2.5 GB of data your data becomes “throttled.”)
Since there is no contract with Virgin Mobile, the new phones will not start at $99.99 like they do on Sprint on $199.99 like they do on Verizon or AT&T. Instead they will be start at $549.99 which is the price of the 16GB phone. The 32GB phone will cost $649.99 and the 64 GB iPhone will cost $749.99.
If you sign up for the plan with a debit card, PayPal account or credit card, Virgin Mobile provides a $5 discount every month on their plans which start at $35 per month. The $35 plan offers 300 anytime minutes and unlimited messaging and data. The $45 per month plan offers the same amount of data and messaging with 1200 anytime minutes. The $55 per month offers everything unlimited.
In 2012 Virgin Mobile did something similar with the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s. The 8GB iPhone 4 was priced at $549. The 16GB iPhone 4S cost $649.
The 4 and 4s are still available if you don’t want to pay the $500 plus for the newest iPhone. The iPhone 4 is currently $297.50 and the 4s is $382.50.
