NCAA Football Rumors: Ohio State’s Urban Meyer Heading to NFL?

Urban Meyer just keeps adding to his already impressive college resume. Two National championships with the University of Florida and now a National Title with Ohio State (and a third string quarterback, no less) has him sparkling in the eyes of some NFL decision makers. After last night's victory, it was fair to wonder if he was interested in a job at the pro level.

Alas, it isn't meant to be. At least not yet, anyway. When asked at a press conference earlier today if he could leave for the NFL, Meyer said it was possible down the road, but that he has no interest in a move anytime in the near future.

"Not right now," Meyer said. "I have a commitment to Ohio State and these players."

Just to play devil's advocate, it's not as if Meyer didn't have a commitment to Bowling Green. Or to Utah. Or to Florida. Meyer has had several commitments in the past, only for him to leave when a better opportunity came around. There's nothing wrong with that, but it is worth noting.

Meyer does sound as if he is fully committed to Ohio State for the 2015 season (and with three viable options at quarterback, it's not hard to see why). But I wouldn't be shocked if he ends up taking meetings with a few NFL teams over the next few seasons. Meyer has never been one to shy away from a challenge, and coaching at the highest level is the ultimate challenge.
