Not the best weekend for The Weeknd.
The 24-year-old singer Canadian pop star was arrested early Saturday morning after allegedly punching a police officer in the head, TMZ reported. Law enforcement reportedly received a call around 4:20 a.m. about a massive fight at the Drai's Nightclub inside the Cromwell Hotel involving the singer, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye.
While attempting break up the fight, the singer was reportedly pulled out of the crowd and into an elevator where he allegedly punched an officer in the head with his closed fist.
A spokeswoman for the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, Laura Meltzer, told E! Online about the incident, saying "a man by the name Abel Tesfaye was arrested on Saturday in Las Vegas at about 4:42 A.M. Special Event officers responded to call regarding a fight that broke out at the 3500 Block of South Las Vegas Blvd. When they got to the venue there was a big group of people in an altercation."
Meltzer continued, "They tried to separate up the fight. They took one man (Abel Tesfaye) into the elevator and he punched the officer at the side of his head with a closed fist. [Abel] was arrested for battery of a protected person and taken to Clark County Detention. He is not there anymore so he must of bailed out."
No reported on whether the "Love Me Harder" singer will be charged. After being released from jail, he posted a photo of himself boarding a plane, with the caption, "Escaped from Las Vegas."
