The sick 5-month-old boy who recently fell victim to a GoFundMe fraud finally got the new heart he needed to survive.
Noah Knickerbocker was born with aortic valve stenosis, which causes pressure to build up in the left ventricle and thickens the heart muscle. The heart is forced to work harder with this condition, often resulting in heart failure.
On Sunday night Noah's doctors told his parents, Tyler and Rachel Knickerbocker, that they'd been offered a heart that was a match for Noah, but because Noah had undergone a blood transfusion, they weren't sure if they could do the surgery, reported ABC News.
At 2 a.m. Monday morning the doctors decided it was save to do the transplant.
"The time between knowing and not knowing was just ungodly," Tyler, 23, told ABC News.
Not only were the young parents faced with watching their infant go through a heart transplant, but in the midst of everything they fell victim to GoFundMe fraud.
A family friend of the Knickerbockers, Ken Wills, set up a GoFundMe page for Noah and collected $6,500 to allegedly help pay for the child's heart transplant.
The parents were overjoyed with their friend's generosity until Wills closed the page and vanished with the money. He supposedly donated the money to the Ronald McDonald House charity, which is helping Noah, without consulting the family first, reported Mail Online.
