'Sega Dreamcast': Original Xbox Almost Played Dreamcast Games (WATCH IT)

"Did You Know Gaming" dropped its newest trivia video for this week. This time, it's all about the beloved, ill-fated Sega console, the Dreamcast. The console that finally killed Sega's hardware interests, the Dreamcast's story is one of the true tragedies of gaming. Was it was a console ahead of its time or one that just couldn't keep up with Sony and Nintendo's muscle? You tell me.

Of particular interest in this video is Microsoft's partnership with Sega on the Dreamcast. At one point, Microsoft was focusing its video gaming ambitions on Sega's new console; its Windows CE operating system was the "brains" of the system after all. So, what if "Halo" was released on the Dreamcast instead of the Xbox? "Halo" was the original Xbox's "killer app" and bolstered sales at time when the system was definitely on shaky ground. Lionhead Studio's "Fable" was also coming to Dreamcast (it ending up being an Xbox exclusive) at one point.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I know I would've loved to have been able to play my Dreamcast GD-ROMs on the Xbox, which used regular DVDs and nothing proprietary as the GD-ROMs were. It's a damn shame that never happened.
