Mexican Woman, Missing 1 Year, Found Dead In Building's Water Tank

The body of an aspiring Mexican actress was found in the water tank of her apartment almost a year after she vanished without a trace, the Daily Mail reported.

Mexico City health officials found Carmen Yarira Esparza Noriega's badly decomposed body in the Grand Chapuletepec apartment building's water tank in December 2014 after residents complained the drinking water tasted strange.

"The body has been taken to the Institute of Forensic Sciences where a postmortem will be carried out to determine the exact cause of death," a police spokesman said according to the Daily Mail.

Medical officials were able to confirm the identity through Noriega's breast and hip implants, Fox News Latino reported.

The 27-year-old psychology graduate was last seen February 2014 leaving a gym in Mexico City. At the time her friends and family feared she was abducted and forced to be a sex slave.

"When she failed to show up at the clinic where she worked, we all thought that she might have been kidnapped and sold off into the sex trafficking industry," Javier Paz, the victim's friend, told the Daily Mail. "But it seems that her body was back in her apartment block the whole time."

Noriega disappeared a week before she was to move out of her apartment, which was being paid for by her former boyfriend, an unnamed successful businessman.

She recently broke up with the businessman after becoming involved with a lawyer, the newspaper reported.

Authorities are now looking at the businessman as a suspect in Noriega's disappearance.
