Duke went 14-0 before suffering their first loss of the season. The Blue Devils were unable to overcome N.C. State on Saturday, their unbeaten streak coming to an end with an 87-75 loss. Because of the loss, Miami coach Jim Larranaga is expecting an even more difficult challenge on Tuesday.
"I don't know the last time they have ever lost two conference games during the regular season, back-to-back, I am sure it has been a while," he said, via ESPN. "... They're such a well-balanced team. They have the premier low-post player in the country in Jahlil Okafor. He is surrounded by outstanding perimeter shooters, 3-point shooters that can really stretch your defense."
Larranaga also knows his team is the underdog playing Duke at home.
"It's very difficult to play Duke no matter what the arena but on their home court with the students and fans sitting right there, it's not one of the large venues in our league or in our country, but it's one of the best," he said.
Okafor leads the ACC with 19.2 points per game and has the nation's best field-goal percentage at 68.4 percent, according to ESPN. To counter the Freshman phenom, Miami will be putting 7-foot junior Tonye Jekiri, the conference's leading rebounding with 9.9 boards per game, on him for much of the night.
Miami is 11-4, bouncing back from a loss to Virginia in early January with a 60-56 win on Saturday against Boston College.
"They're extremely well-coached, they'll actually end up being a veteran team because of the transfer they've had come in," Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski said. "(Angel) Rodriguez is just a terrific player and competitor and (Sheldon) McClellan, you have two ready-made stars for your team."
