Kansas Missing Woman Finally Identified After Body Found Stuffed In Suitcase

The skeletal remains of a woman found in a burned suitcase in a New York City building nearly two years ago have been identified, the New York Police Department said Tuesday.

DNA testing confirmed Erica McDaniel, 30, as the woman found crammed into a suitcase inside the abandoned building in Brooklyn in March 2013, police said according to the New York Daily News.

The Bedford-Stuyvesant property burned down a few months before the remains were discovered. It was later purchased and in the process of being renovated when the new owner found the charred suitcase.

"This house had a lot of history, a lot of stuff happened in this house," neighbor Edsson Benedith, who remembers when the body was found, told WABC- TV. "A lot of bad stuff."

McDaniel's death is being investigated as a homicide.

The Kansas native divided her time between her home state and her residence on Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn, the Daily News reported.

Records show she was arrested in 2011 and had no contact with police since.

Anyone with information about McDaniel's case is urged to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS (8477)
