Google Classroom Mobile App Available Now for iOS, Android Devices

Google is looking to get students and teachers to work together online more often with the release of a new Classroom mobile app.

The app, which was released Wednesday for iOS and Android devices, will let students use the built-in cameras on mobile devices to attach files - in PDF form - and photos to their assignments from different classes, according to ZDNet.

Jorge Lugo, a software engineer for Google Apps for Education Classroom, wrote in a blog post that students can also have someone take a photo of homework they forgot at home and text it to the student so they can make sure it gets in on time.

"Of course, if the dog has actually eaten it, Classroom can't help you," Lugo added.

The Classroom app currently lets teachers keep track of upcoming assignments as well as mark assignments as "done" when they are completed, ZDNet reported.

The launch follows about six months after Classroom debuted in order to make it easier for educators to use Google Apps for Education, which Google estimated last fall consists of more than 40 million users, including students, teachers and administrators.

Lugo said over 30 million assignments have been submitted through Classroom since the app's birth, and that the additions of teacher assignment pages and the ability to archive classes will also help to increase interactions between teachers and students.

Students and teachers with iOS and Android devices can download Classroom now for free, and Google says more features will make their way to the app.
