Ellen DeGeneres recently used her monologue to address an article written by anti-gay columnist who warned against the "avalanche of gay programming" happening in movies and television.
Larry Tomczak, a best-selling author and cultural commentator, wrote the piece for The Christian Post and named DeGeneres as an example of how Hollywood is "promoting homosexuality."
"'Ellen Degeneres' celebrates her lesbianism and 'marriage' in between appearances of guests like Taylor Swift to attract young girls," Tomczak wrote on Jan. 8.
News of the post found its way to the talk show host, who rarely comments on things said about her in the media. "Unless it's about me being pregnant and then how else would I know," she joked during the monologue. "You gotta find out."
DeGeneres first addressed what he wrote about her personally in the article.
"Let's just break this down - I'm not 'married.' I'm married," she said as she dropped the air quotes on the second mention of "married." She also claimed she didn't know how to celebrate her "lesbianism," but then corrected herself as she pulled a party popper from her pocket and set it off.
She then laid out the rest of his argument, which included Tomczak criticizing shows such as "Glee" for having "over five gay characters" and "Modern Family" for portraying a gay wedding. He also attacked Anderson Cooper who he claims, "boasts openly on TV he'd rather 'have sex' with a man."
"If you ask me, Larry's watching a lot of gay TV," DeGeneres said.
The pastor suggests families who want to shield their children from the "tsunami" of gay programming should purchase "wholesome DVD series" such as "The Fugitive," "Gunsmoke," "Little House on the Prairie" or "I Love Lucy."
DeGeneres got a chuckle out of this as well, referencing the episode where Lucy has to stuff her mouth full of chocolate while working at the candy factory. She also questions a strange photo of Lucy (Lucille Ball) and Ethel (Vivian Vance) with the former holding a trash can lid over her backside.
"That's all us gays do. We get a garbage can lid..." she started laughing and couldn't finish the joke.
DeGeneres concluded the monologue explaining how she really tries influence people.
"The only way I'm trying to influence people is to be more kind and compassionate with one another. That is the message that I'm sending out. I don't have an agenda," she said.
She then grabbed a hypnosis wheel and started to spin it as she asked the youth of the world to listen to her voice. "I want you to live your lives being exactly who you are. Be true to yourself. The most important thing is to be true to yourself," she said before hocking her popular "Ellen" underwear.
