"MTV's Catfish: The TV Show" is back for an all new and juicy season. The second season of the dating-deception show was picked up to return with hosts Nev Schulman and Max Joseph investigating the romances between online daters.
In the preview released by MTV the audience is introduced to Cassie who is engaged to a man she has never met even though they have been dating online for eight years. She explains to the hosts that after her father was murdered a couple years ago she turned to drugs and alcohol to help her cope. One day she gets a mysterious Facebook friend request from a guy named Steve and the two hit it off. she credits Steve with helping her get her turn her life around and after some time she proposes to him.
Throughout the season the show also introduces an Iraqi veteran, named Anthony, who falls for another man and a guy who has given his bank account information as well as thousands of dollars to his online girlfriend even though they have never met.
Sounds juicy! The new season is scheduled to premiere June 25 at 10 p.m. on MTV.
According to The Wrap the show has been a hit with 2.4 million viewers in season 1. Ratings jumped after Manti Te'o's very public and embarrassing "catfish" scandal in January involving his imaginary girlfriend and her tragic death. When the show picked back up in the middle of January 2.8 million people tuned in, the website reports.
MTV premiered a 30-minute sneak peek of the news season to help fans bridge the gap between where the first season left off and where the second season begins.
