Two Kentucky teenagers who have been on the run for almost two weeks were seen in South Carolina, but the "Bonnie and Clyde" duo is still on the loose, ABC News reported on Thursday.
Cheyenne Phillips, 13 and Dalton Hayes, 18, were seen at a Walmart in South Carolina on Monday. They have a firearm and are driving a stolen red 2006 Toyota Tacoma. They have also stolen two other trucks.
Tammy Martin, Hayes' mother, said the two had just started dating, Wave 3 reported.
"I don't know why they're doing it," Martin said. "I just wish they would turn themselves in."
Both Hayes and Martin said they didn't know Cheyenne was 13 until recently.
The teens stole a truck out of a resident's garage in a rural town in Kentucky. They ended up crashing it through fences of a cattle farm, causing $7,000 in damage in the truck, before taking off into the woods on foot. They also caused significant damage to the property.
The last time Hayes made contact with his mother was on Jan. 6 through a text message that reads:
"Mommy, don't worry. I'm fine, okay -- plenty of money and food. Love you, good night, sweet dreams."
But Martin does have something she wants to say to her son.
"We know they've done wrong but you need to step up and take consequences of what you done and come home before someone is really, really hurt," she said.
