Oscar Nominations 2015: 'Birdman,' 'The Imitation Game' And 'The Grand Budapest Hotel' Dominate

The 87th Academy Award Nominations differed little from the award show winners and nominees already seen this season.

The films "Birdman" and "The Grand Budapest Hotel" garnered the most nominations with nine each. "The Imitation Game" received eight noms with all three films named as a Best Picture nominee among the eight contenders.

"American Sniper" saw an uptick in its recognition compared to last week's Golden Globe Awards with six nominations. "Boyhood," which performed well at the Globes, also picked up six. "Foxcatcher" failed to receive a Best Picture nom but collected five nominations with recognition for its actors, director, screenwriter and makeup and hairstyling.

Directors J.J. Abrams, Alfonso Cuarón and "Into the Woods" star Chris Pine announced the nominees on Thursday morning at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater alongside the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences president Cheryl Boone Isaacs.

Neil Patrick Harris will host the ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. on ABC.
