T-Mobile Announces New Prepaid Phone Plans, Starting at $40

Having to pay for two-year phone contracts can be obnoxious and terrible. Some people just want something simple. However, most prepaid options have limited capabilities. T-Mobile has heard customer complaints about this, and has offered a new reasonably priced option for the world.

T-Mobile announced its new Simply Prepaid Plans on Thursday. These plans provide users with unlimited talk, text and data, as well as either one, three or five Gigabytes of 4G LTE data. After users use all their 4G LTE data, they'll be able to stream data at the 2G level of 128 Kbps. Each of these tiers is $10 less than T-Mobile's previous Simple Choice prepaid plans, which came with additional features, such as Music Freedom and unlimited international texting.

"There's a reason [T-Mobile] continues to be #1 in prepaid, and it starts with our willingness to break the rules and give customers better choices......The 1.2 million net new prepaid customers who joined T-Mobile last year already see that value, and we have no plans to stop there," T-Mobile CEO John Legere said.

Here is a breakdown of T-Mobile's Simply Prepaid Plans

  • $40 / month for unlimited data, talk and text + up to 1GB of 4G LTE
  • $50 / month for unlimited data, talk and text + up to 3GB of 4G LTE
  • $60 / month for unlimited data, talk and text + up to 5GB of 4G LTE

The Simply Prepaid package will be available online and in stores across the country on Jan. 25.
