Xbox One owners will be happy to hear that the ability to take screenshots, a much-anticipated feature, is making its way to the popular console.
Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft's Xbox division, said the functionality will be available on the Xbox One "in the next few months," according to GameSpot. The Redmond, Washington-based tech giant has been promising gamers for more than six months that they would soon be able to take screenshots with the console.
Spencer said in May 2014 that one of the reasons it has taken a while to add the feature was that it was "a little more technically challenging" than initially believed.
"Screenshots are coming early this year. I know it has been a question for quite a while," he said recently on the Xbox Wire. "We delivered themes, and I think a natural add-on to themes are screenshots."
While a specific date for the functionality's launch has yet to be revealed, Spencer hinted that Microsoft will make a huge announcement for the Xbox One at its Windows 10 event, which is scheduled for Jan. 21, The Next Web reported. Whether it's more news about taking screenshots with the console or some other kind of update, gamers will only have to wait for less than a week to find out.
The addition would help the Xbox One in its rivalry with Sony's PlayStation 4 console, which has been letting gamers take and share screenshots since its release in November 2013, GameSpot reported.
"Giving people more ability to share their great gaming moments on the platform- whether it's just as a screenshot, as their background, or through many of the different social networks that we allow people to share their content through is a long-term commitment that we have," Spencer said.
