Samsung announced both launch dates and prices for its Galaxy Tab 3 line of tablets devices. The South Korean electronics company told the public on Monday they would make the new lineup, which includes the first Intel-powered Android tablet available in the United States, available for pre-order sales starting June 25. Actual sales will begin July 7.
PC Mag reports the price breakdown for the new devices to range from $199 to $399. The budget-friendly 7-inch Galaxy Tab 3 will sport a 1.2GHz Marvell processor, Android 4.1, a 3 megapixel camera on the back and a 1.3 megapixel camera on the front. It will have 8GB of storage space but with a memory card slot. This device will be $199.
The 8-inch model will sport the same front-end camera, with 1.3 megapixels. The back camera though, is bumped up to 5 megapixels. The 8-inch model can run a slightly better Android operating system, the 4.2, and uses a more mainstream 1.5GHz Samsung Exynos dual-core processor. The device will come with 16GB of storage, 11.26GB of which is available according to Samsung. This model's new features bump the price up to $299.
The 10.1-inch model is by far the best. It uses 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2560 "Clover Trail+" processor. This will be the first Android device to run Intel Android released in the U.S. This model only has the 3 megapixel camera on the back with the same 1.3 megapixel camera on the front as the other two models as well as the 8-inch's 16GB Memory and memory card slot. This will, obviously, be the most expensive version of the Galaxy Tab 3 on the market running at $399.
The integration with Intel means no LTE or cellular coverage on these tablets. This means they're all WiFi only with no cellular capabilities. Despite the pitfall, the company hopes these new devices will be able to compete with other tablets like the Amazon Kindle Fire HD, the Kobo Arc. and the Asus Memo Pad HD 7.
