The Houston Rockets are the latest team reportedly interested in trading for Brooklyn Nets center Brook Lopez. Houston joins the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Miami Heat as teams trying to trade for Lopez before the Feb. 19 deadline.
Lopez is likely to be dealt before the trade deadline, and things are beginning to heat up. Yahoo Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski reported Houston as the latest team to toss their hats into the ring, tweeting that general manager Daryl Morey was "probing" Brooklyn about the 7-footer.
Houston could have a chance to grab Lopez. There were recent trade rumors about Lopez going to Oklahoma City, but Wojnarowski reported Brooklyn halted the discussions Friday afternoon.
"Standing pat at this time," one Nets source told Yahoo Sports. "There was nothing we liked."
Trade rumors regarding Lopez exploded Thursday night when ESPN and USA Today reported Brooklyn, the Oklahoma City Thunder and the Charlotte Hornets were discussing a three-team deal that included send Lopez to Oklahoma City, Kendrick Perkins to Brooklyn and Lance Stephenson to somewhere.
The deal, according to ESPN's Chris Broussard, fell through by Friday morning after Charlotte pulled out. ESPN's Marc Stein tweeted later that day a new three-team deal was possibly in the work, with Charlotte being replaced by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
"Sources say one option that strongly interests Nets, IF Brook L trade goes down, is trying to deal Perk for Thaddeus Young," Stein tweeted Friday. "... ESPN sources say Wolves are willing to move Thaddeus Young as part of ongoing rebuild and Young said to be high on list (of) players (Brooklyn) covets."
As mentioned above, Yahoo Sports is reporting a deal between Brooklyn and Oklahoma City is no longer in the works as of Friday afternoon.
