AIG Executive Omar Meza Found Dead in Pond at California Resort

The body of an AIG executive missing for a week was pulled from a pond at a California resort on Thursday afternoon, KESQ-TV reported.

Omar Meza, of Los Angeles, was found floating in the pond at a golf course at the J.W. Marriott Desert Springs Resort, the same hotel Meza was last seen on Jan. 8 at around 11 p.m. The 33-year-old's body was taken to the Riverside County Coroner's office, where an autopsy is to determine a cause of death.

Meza, a vice president at the insurance firm AIG Financial Distributors, was in town for work meetings, but he was not a guest at the J.W. Marriott located on Country Club Drive, the station reported. The night he disappeared, he hopped into an Uber car after dinner with co-workers and asked to be taken to the Marriot on Cook Street where he was staying.

Meza's wife said she believes the Uber driver dropped her husband off at the wrong hotel.

"We spoke on the phone he was going to be heading to his hotel room," Diane Meza told KESQ. Her husband said he would call her once he got upstairs but never did.

Omar Meza was reported missing the next day when he did not show up to morning meetings. Search parties were formed around Riverside County and dive teams checked ponds around the J.W. Marriott. Omar Meza's wallet was eventually found on the hotel's golf course, along with his neatly folded jacket.

Riverside County police are not yet sure how long the executive's body was in the pond. The investigation remains open.

Diane Meza told the station she and her husband were in a bad car accident in 2013 that left her husband with memory loss and long-term damage.

"We are with heavy hearts tonight as we announce the passing of Omar Meza," his family said on Facebook. "He was a very loved son, husband, brother & friend.

"We would like to take this time to grieve his passing and ask that everyone please respect our privacy at this time."
