The recent controversy surrounding SeaWorld theme parks has caused the movie adaptation of John Green's "Paper Towns" to cut a scene set at the park.
In the 2008 novel, characters Quentin "Q" Jacobsen and Margo Roth Spiegelman sneak out late and break into the Orlando theme park, but they leave disappointed because none of the animals are in their showcases. The sequence of events will end a scene earlier when the teens break into the SunTrust bank building, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
"Since [John] wrote the book, the documentary ['Blackfish'] came out. I think it's a little less playful to go to SeaWorld now," producer Wyck Gofrey of Temple Hill Entertainment told The Hollywood Reporter.
"Blackfish" premiered in 2013 and shined a light on the inhumane living conditions for the park's main attraction - the killer whales. The documentary focused on Tilikum, the orca whale that killed its trainer Dawn Brancheau in 2010.
"Paper Towns" stars Nat Wolff as Quentin, a high school senior infatuated by his next door neighbor and classmate Margo (Cara Delevingne). When she disappears after the late-night rendezvous, he and his friends follow a series of clues to try and find where she has gone.
The movie is the second adapted from one of Green's young adult novels. "Fault in Our Stars," starring Shailene Woodley and Ansel Elgort, premiered last summer and grossed more than $304 million worldwide.
"Paper Towns" will open in theaters on June 5, 2015.
