A gunman died after shooting and injuring two people at a Florida mall food court Saturday around 9:30 a.m.
The gunman appears to be the only fatality in the shooting Saturday Melbourne Police Commander Vince Pryce said, according to CNN. The police did not say what the condition of those injured was, but said they were taken to a local hospital.
Police contained the situation, but closed the mall even though there is no threat to the public, Pryce said.
Officers had cleared the mall store by store and the Melbourne Police Department's active shooters team had entered the building when they received a 911 call around 9:30 a.m., ABC News reported. The police tweeted about the shooting around 10:30 a.m., and tweeted again about ten minutes later to inform the public that the shooter was contained.
"It was a frightening experience," witness Donna Evans told CNN affiliate Central Florida News 13. "It's something that you don't ever want anybody to experience."
Another witness reported that five or six shots erupted in the food court, according to CNN.
Daniel Timothy, a manager for a restaurant near the mall, said it was a huge relief that police had contained the shooter. He could now open his doors for business, ABC News said.
Police did not give a possible motive behind the Melbourne Square Mall shooting. The mall is southeast of Orlando.
