The nicknamed "Bonnie and Clyde" teenagers that have blazed a path of crime across the south, leaving behind several stolen vehicles, were spotted in Florida on Friday, Fox News reported.
Dalton Hayes, 18, and his girlfriend, Cheyenne Phillips, 13, who seemed to be 19 to Hayes' family, have been on the run from Kentucky for almost two weeks. Police weren't specific about where they were seen in Florida but said they were panhandling for necessities.
They are suspected to be driving in a stolen pickup truck packing firearms and have so far eluded authorities.
"There's going to come a time when we're not going to see him as an 18-year-old kid," said Norman Chaffins, the sheriff of Grayson County in Kentucky. "We're going to see him as someone who's stolen three vehicles with two handguns in them, and the outcome is not going to be good for either one of them if they don't turn themselves in."
Hayes' mother, Tammy Martin, said she wants the two to face the consequences and come home.
"I pretty much cry myself to sleep every night worrying about where they are and if a police officer or any random individual tries to pull them over and isn't so nice and hurts them," she said.
The teens have damaged property, stolen several vehicles and cashed forged checks since they disappearing from Kentucky. Family members have no idea what their motives may be.
As of Saturday, there have been reported sightings of the runaways in Texas and Alabama in addition to Florida.
"We would need to get with the prosecutor to see if the teens get back to Kentucky," Shaffer said Friday. "We could pursue criminal charges against them, we just have to continue to wait. And once they're found then we can look at the circumstances and decide if that would be something we'd want to pursue."
