The Baltimore Ravens were dealt a significant blow by the football gods when the Denver Broncos announced they were parting ways with head coach John Fox and thus purchasing a ticket for entry into the NFL's annual head coaching carousel.
Offensive coordinator Gary Kubiak, though he had already announced he wasn't going to leave the Ravens and seek a head coaching position elsewhere this offseason, was eventually lured west by the too-tempting possibility of taking the reins of a team as laden with talent as the Broncos.
Now, the Ravens, suddenly bereft of an offensive coordinator seemingly tailor-made for their team, may look to add a guy who was recently a member of that very Denver franchise, former Broncos offensive coordinator, Adam Gase.
Gase, who was touted as a head coaching candidate in Denver but never really seemed anything other than a secondary option for Broncos GM John Elway, is expected to speak with the Ravens soon, per Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.
Further more, he's expected to "land in either Jacksonville or Baltimore," sources tell Rapoport.
The Ravens were pondering either the promotion of quarterbacks coach Rick Dennison or the hiring of former Cleverland Browns coordinator Kyle Shanahan, but Dennison has departed for Denver with Kubiak and Shanahan has been brought on board in Atlanta.
"Sunday's developments leave the Ravens weighing the merits of a group of candidates that includes Broncos offensive coordinator Adam Gase, whom the Ravens regard highly, according to sources," writes Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun.
The 36-year old Gase has developed a strong relationship with Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning - who has reportedly been touting the young signal-caller to franchises across the NFL - and is viewed both within the Denver organization and around the league as a bright, up-and-coming coach.
This season, Gase and Manning helped Denver finish fourth in the league in total yards on offense and second in total points.
