ABC's "Mistresses" was renewed for a third season but Alyssa Milano's character Savi will be MIA. Milano announced last year that she wasn't returning to the series because production had moved from Los Angeles to Vancouver and she didn't want to uproot her family.
Her surprising departure left ABC with the task of figuring out what's going to happen to her character. According to TV Line, network President Paul Lee said at the Television Critics Association's winter press tour that the vacant role won't be recast.
"We're going to create a new character - we're not going to replace her," Lee said. "We fully support [Alyssa's] decision to stay here with her family. We're sorry to see her go, but we've got some great plans for 'Mistresses.'"
The 41-year-old actress, who gave birth to her second child Elizabella Dylan in September, previously told Entertainment Weekly that she had no idea how ABC planned to end Savi's storyline.
"I don't know what is happening with that - I just know that I am not going back," she said. "I don't know how they're going to wrap it up. They're either going to need me to come, or they're going to jump-cut it."
She said that she would be willing to film a few scenes to wrap up the character's story on the show but only if it was filmed in Los Angeles and it would do Savi justice.
"I don't think coming back for one episode is really going to do that storyline much justice," she said. "Okay, so she's going to see them, and then she's going to go off and disappear? Like, she's going to kill herself? I don't see how one episode is going to wrap that up... It's a tricky thing for them."
