Officials said Chicago Bulls legend Scottie Pippen has handed himself in to police after an altercation outside of a Malibu sushi restaurant this past weekend, according to the Chicago Tribune.
Pippen was at the Nobu Malibu restaurant when he and another man got into a fight at approximately 6:30 pm, according to spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sherriff’s office Steve Whitmore. The man was sent to the hospital afterwards.
"He came in to be interviewed, he's been cooperative," Whitmore said.
Whitmore cited witnesses who said Pippen and the man argued near to a valet stand in the parking lot.
"That argument led to an altercation," said Whitmore. "Our detectives are investigating this right now."
According to Whitmore, the former Bulls small forward left the restaurant following the altercation. The other individual was taken to the hospital. Whitmore did not know the man’s condition.
"Charges could follow, we don't know," the spokesman said. "We have to investigate and check with all the witnesses and find out exactly what happened."
Restaurant workers said they did not know anything about the fight.
The Chicago Bulls said it is too early to offer a statement on the issue. Pippen is a special adviser to Michael Reinsdorf, the Bulls’ president and chief operating officer.
Pippen was also recently in the news for a less serious matter. He discussed Bulls’ fans impatience with young star point guard Derrick Rose. Rose tore his ACL is the 2011-2012 postseason and—although he was cleared to play this February—sat out for the rest of the season.
"I was kind of surprised people turned on him knowing the difficulty of Derrick's injury," Pippen said at a Nike event in June according to ESPNChicago.com. "No one can justify what he's going through. No one can make his decision as to when to get back on the basketball court. I thought he took a little bit of a hit for it.
Whitmore said Pippen has not been arrested.
