Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer will probably uncover his plans to restructure the company to the senior executives by July 1. These caused worries on the top managers as they were left out in the decision making.
Last October, Ballmer wrote about his plan of establishing the company’s position as a “devices and services company” on the annual shareholder letter. He seems to be doing the works now and consults only with his direct reports and a few board members. This ignited uneasiness inside the organization as people were not aware on the things that will happen on July 1.
Most of the managers had served the company for a long time. Rumors said that there will be a few major shifts and departures as well. This is nothing new since the company also underwent restructuring in 2008. Last year, Windows chief Steven Sinofsky left the company. Several years ago, other top managers departed the company as well such as Kevin Johnson after 16 years, Jeff Raikes who had been in the tech giant since 1981, J Allard after 15 years, and Robbie Bach after 22 years.
A Microsoft spokesman refused to comment about the issue.
There were rumors that some of the top managers will change their roles such president of Microsoft’s Servers and Tools division Satya Nadella, president of its Skype communications unit Tony Bates, and president of its Interactive Entertainment division Don Mattrick. Other top managers that may be affected are president of Microsoft’s Online Services unit Qi Lu and president of Windows Phone division Terry Myerson. These are all allegations as everyone remains clueless until Ballmer confirms everything soon.
Even the July 1 confirmation date is also uncertain because it all depends on how much time Ballmer needs to contemplate on the restructuring he wants to do to pursue a new direction Microsoft is taking.
