Monica Lewinsky has made it her business to stay out of the spotlight after her very public fall from grace in the '90s. Now the former White House intern is making headlines as her personal items, including clothing, are up for sale in an auction by Nate D. Sanders, the Daily Mail reports. Among the 32-items up for sale are eight pieces of clothing including a sheer nightgown, White House M&Ms, letters signed by President Clinton and pictures of the President by himself and with his wife. Lewinsky's infamous blue dress is not a part of the items in the auction.
According to the website, Lewinsky had a five-year affair with her former high school drama teacher, Andy Bleiler, during the time she had a sexual relationship with President Clinton. During the impeachment trial of the President, Bleiler came forward and gave the items Lewinsky had given him and his wife to investigator Ken Starr. Bleiler and his wife, Kathy, are now divorced and she is the one who reportedly passed on the items to the auction company.
Lewinsky, who was friends with Bleiler and his wife, would often send the couple gifts when she was an intern at the White House. At one point she even had the President write a handwritten birthday card to her former teacher.
"Monica was friends with the couple, so I think she gave some of her clothes to Kathy, just to wear, they may have exchanged some of the clothes," Laura Yntema, an auction manager at Nate D. Sanders, told the Daily Mail.
The items went on sale at the beginning of the month and ends on June 27, Yahoo! reports. So far the auction has received two bids totaling $2,750 but is expected to reach between $25,000 to $50,000 by the time it ends. Yntema told the Daily Mail that things usually pick up on the last day.
Lewinsky, now 39, lives in Britain. Her affair with President Clinton lasted from 1995-97 and came to light in 1998. President Clinton was impeached by the U.S. House of Representatives in 1998 but was acquitted by the U.S. Senate.
