Those who have played Sony's critically acclaimed PS3 game "The Last of Us" have noticed the strong resemblance one of the main characters has to actress Ellen Page. Ellie, the 14-year-old girl who players have to escort across a dangerous map filled with hostile mindless human zombies conjures up the image of the "Inception," and "Juno" star.
The resemblance is not lost on Page herself who, in a recent Ask Me Anything on Reddit commented on the similarities between the character's faces. When someone asked her if she was aware of Ellie in "The Last of Us" she responded by saying:
"I guess I should be flattered that they ripped off my likeness, but I am actually acting in a video game called "Beyond: Two Souls," so it wasn't appreciated."
Ellie was actually played by former "Growing Pains" actress Ashley Johnson. Creative director at Naughty Dog Neil Druckman, the game's developer company, took to Twitter to express his view on the matter.
"Ellie from The Last of Us was perfectly played by @TheVulcanSalute. No one could've done a better job. Please go follow her and retweet," he wrote. @TheVulcanSalute is the Twitter handle of Johnson.
Although fans of the game have no complaints about Johnson's performance in the game, the resemblance is uncanny. In fact, Druckman told IGN they'd redesigned Ellie before the game's final release in order to make some of her features a little different. For example, the character got a new haircut and a more prominent scar on her forehead. While the company claimed it was to make the character reflect Johnson's performance, many are wondering if the change was a way to make the character look less like Ellen Page.
Despite the incident, Page seems undeterred by the video game industry and is excited for her upcoming role in "Beyond: Two Souls."
"I played video games more when I was a kid," she said in her AMA. "I had Sega Genesis and was a HUGE Sonic fan. I also love the NHL games and played them with my brother all time. Then I was super into PlayStation and loved the FIFA games. I recently played my first video game in a while. I played the latest Tomb Raider and really enjoyed it, finished in about 12 hours."
