Many were shocked to learn that the late Michael Jackson's teenage daughter, Paris Jackson, had recently tried to commit suicide by cutting her wrists and swallowing a handful of Motrin. Jackson's self-harm and hospitalization came just before father's day, and many fans are wondering how the teen is doing now. According to Xpose Entertainment, Paris is "doing OK", as revealed by her godfather Mark Lester.
"'I had some phone contact last week with a close member of the family," the British actor said recently on "Lorraine," a UK TV show. "I understand that things, although are not great with Paris, they're not too bad and she's being looked after...she's doing OK, she'll be alright, she'll be fine.''
Lester believes that Jackson did not intend to kill herself, but her act was instead a cry for help. ''It's a serious incident obviously, but I hope it's not something that she really did mean to do, and from my understanding it wasn't a serious, serious attempt, but obviously it was a cry for help, and then we must respect that and try and do the best we can.''
He also claims that he could be the biological father of Paris and her brother Prince, as he allegedly donated sperm to the late "Thriller" superstar. Since the death of their father, Paris, Prince and younger brother Blanket have been in the care of their grandmother Katherine Jackson, their legal guardian.
''In light of what's happened with Paris it's going to be even more difficult, because social media's closed down and phone lines have been closed," Lester said on Paris. "Yeah OK, they're looking after her, I'm sure, in the best way they can, but eventually, maybe, in a couple of months time, when things start to get better for her, then lines of communication will open up again.''
It's been four years since the children lost their father in 2009, and according to E!, 15-year old Paris may have the most trouble dealing with the trauma. She has been actively repairing her relationship with her mother Debbie Rowe - who confirmed her suicide attempt to the media - and is reportedly suffering from depression.
"She is doing a lot better," a source told E! recently, noting that the teen still "has a while to go." They added that Paris is still talking to her mother daily.
"She is going to have several months to be [in the hospital], or to another facility...or she will stay a while with Debbie and have daily sessions," they said. "They are deciding now. A lot has to do with the hospital and the doctor's recommendations."
