At a press event on Wednesday, Windows began previewing its latest version of the OS, Windows 10.
So far, the version will include updates to Internet Explorer and Cortana. However, Microsoft chose to take a different path with its software by offering users a free upgrade if they so choose. The upgrade can also be applied to Microsoft phones.
Terry Myerson, Microsoft's executive president, previewed the new software and talked about his goals for the update, stressing the importance of interaction between devices, according to TechCrunch. However, most users used a variety of different Windows OS systems for various functions. The variety makes it hard for gadgets to integrate and interact, especially when dealing with Windows tablets or smartphones.
Myerson also expressed his desire to protect his customers' security. The best way to keep a computer secure is knowing its age. The older the software is, the easier it is for hackers to harness and take over.
"It's important that our customers' privacy is respected, and that they trust the devices and the experience," Myerson said.
An older OS also makes the software harder to trust, since it might reject newer information or programs.
These three particular areas are where Myerson wants Windows 10 to excel; mobility of experience, trust and natural interaction.
