Xbox boss Phil Spencer hit the stage during Microsoft's Windows 10 event wearing a "Battletoads" T-shirt (see above). He never mentioned the "Battletoads" series during his presentation, but he was asked (via The Verge) if the "Battletoads" T-shirt was meant to imply that a new game in the gone-but-not-forgotten series was in the pipeline.
Spencer's telling response was: "I don't think I've ever worn a T-shirt that's been a complete head-fake. I wouldn't do that."
While that's not a confirmation that Microsoft is indeed working on a new "Battletoads" title, it does add to the mounting conjecture that it certainly is.
Back in November, Microsoft renewed its trademark for "Battletoads," and at the time the company did not comment on the future of the series.
The "Battletoads" series was originally created by Brit developers Rare, and was released in 1991 for the Nintendo Entertainment System. Microsoft bought Rare in 2002, and "Battletoads" has been languishing for many a moon, the last game in the series being released in 1994. More recently, a Rare employee, Robin Beanland, said that 2015 will be a "huge" year for the company.
We'll be seeing a new "Battletoads" game this year. Write it down now.
