NFL Rumors: Steelers RB Le’Veon Bell to be Suspended in 2015?

Most people will look back on the 2014 season and remember Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell's breakout year. To be honest, when you rack up more than 2,200 total yards and 11 touchdowns, that's to be expected. But what some people might not remember is that Bell was arrested for DUI and possession of marijuana during the preseason.

Although Bell's legal case was postponed enough that the league did not dole out any punishment during the season, Bell isn't in the clear just yet.

"I haven't heard anything, so we'll just have to wait and see on that," Pittsburgh President Art Rooney II told Steelers.com. "He'll have to go through that disciplinary process as all the pieces unfold here over this offseason.

"It's just something we'll have to deal with when we find out. It depends on where he gets put in the program, what his obligations will be to be subjected to random testing. I don't know what it will be."

Bell will likely face a two-game suspension under the NFL's revamped substance-abuse policy if he is convicted of the DUI charge. It's possible that he will miss the start of the 2015 regular season.

LeGarrette Blount was also arrested with Bell. However, he was released later in the season due to other circumstances. As such, the Steelers are without a proven backup for Bell should he miss any time.

"The Steelers cut ties with LeGarrette Blount late in the season, leaving the depth chart thin behind star running back Le'Veon Bell, whose injury in Week 17 represented the worst-case scenario," ESPN's Matt Williamson wrote. "Rookie Dri Archer did nothing in his first season, and he's more of a specialty back anyway. They should use a mid-round pick on a running back for insurance in case of another Bell injury and to help lighten his workload a bit next season."
