Missing Ohio Elderly Couple Found Dead In Burned Car; Suspects At Large

The bodies of a missing elderly couple were found in a car that was set on fire on a remote dirt road in their native Ohio, according to News Net 5.

Doyle Chumney, 88, and his 79-year-old wife Lilian were found dead Thursday in their car on a muddy, single lane road in Bakersville, a Coshocton county town located about 20 miles from their home in Strasburg. Police found signs of where the car was burned on the road but do not yet know how the couple ended up in the vehicle.

Investigators did not comment on the condition the bodies were found in.

"They were inside the vehicle," Strasburg Police Chief Robert Kutcher told WBNS-TV. "That's pretty much all I want to say at this time."

The last time anyone heard from the Chumneys was Tuesday night.

They were reported missing Wednesday morning when they failed to show up to drive their son to the airport, The Columbus Dispatch reported. Their unnamed daughter went to their home that same day and found the inside was ransacked and her parents missing along with their 1986 Pontiac Parisienne.

Coshocton County sheriffs found the burned vehicle after a passerby saw a car matching the description of the Pontiac. How the couple died is pending an autopsy.

Kutcher said investigators believe more than one person was involved in the couple's disappearance, WBNS-TV reported.

"I will have people staying with me until these people are found, and I hope they're found soon," a concerned Bakersville resident, who gave no name, told the station. "They do not deserve to be out in society (for) such an evil act."
