NFL Trade Rumors: Miami Dolphins Shipping WR Mike Wallace?

Miami Dolphins wide receiver Mike Wallace could be on his way out of town this offseason. Wallace has complained about his role in the team's offense several times and was even benched in the second half of Miami's season finale after arguing with a coach. While Wallace is the top deep threat on the team, that may no longer be enough to keep him in Miami.

It would be difficult to pull off, but a trade is a possible scenario in Wallace's future.

"Trading him is...an option, but one NFL executive compared Wallace's situation to Philadelphia trying to move DeSean Jackson last offseason," Omar Kelly of the Sun-Sentinel wrote. "Teams eventually felts the Eagles would cut Jackson, and they did.

"Jackson, a similar receiver to Wallace, signed a three-year, $24 million contract with the Redskins last offseason. That deal includes $16 million guaranteed.

"Wallace said he'd like to return to the Dolphins, honoring the final three seasons and $33 million left on the $60 million deal he signed in 2013. But if Miami releases him, he'd welcome going back on the free agent market."

Wallace hasn't quite been the No. 1 target Miami hoped it was getting. But he has been an effective option for third-year quarterback Ryan Tannehill. It's not like Wallace didn't produce at all this season. Despite Wallace's uneven temperament, ESPN Dolphins reporter James Walker believes the Dolphins should try and find some common ground with Wallace.

"Personally, I think they should keep Mike Wallace," Walker said. "It's going to be hard to replace 10 touchdowns, 862 passing yards, that kind of elite speed. If you don't have that on your roster, you can't easily replace it. You might as well keep it while you have it."
