Sean Penn, Charlize Theron Engaged: Actor Plans to Adopt Fiancée’s Young Son?

Sean Penn is reportedly ready to prove to Charlize Theron that he wants to become a family. A source close the couple told People magazine that Penn filed the paperwork to legally adopt Theron's 3-year-old son Jackson.

"Charlize and Sean are very serious," the source said. "Charlize says this is it. Jackson already calls Sean daddy."

"This is the first step toward them getting married," the source added

The 54-year-old actor and 39-year-old actress have been dating for over a year and are rumored to be engaged. Back in December, reports surfaced that Penn had popped the question at the end of November while the two were vacationing in Paris.

At the time, the Daily Mail reported that a source told US Weekly that the "I Am Sam" actor asked Theron if they could "take their relationship to the next level."

"There's no ring, but they are committed," the source said.

The couple also sparked engagement rumors in July when the "Snow White and the Huntsman" actress was spotted walking through a Los Angeles airport with a shiny diamond ring on her finger. At the time, a source told US that she was not engaged and she had bought the ring herself.

If Penn and Theron do tie the knot, it will be the first marriage for Theron and the third for Penn. He was previously married to Robin Wright - with whom he shares two children, daughter Dylan, 23, and son Hopper, 21 - and Madonna. Theron adopted Jackson in 2012 when he was 4-months-old.
