Aaron Hernandez Arrested: Patriots Release Tight End; Faces Charges in Arraignment Today; Top 5 Things We Know (VIDEO)

Aaron Hernandez was arrested Wednesday morning, and the New England Patriots wasted no time getting rid of him; the team announced the tight end was no longer a part of the franchise.

Less than two hours after his arrest, the Patriots announced on their official Twitter account that Hernandez was released from his contract.

Hernandez, wearing a white V-neck T-shirt and red athletic shorts, was escorted out of his house at 8:47 a.m. in handcuffs. The arrest was made more than a week since Odin Lloyd, 27, was found dead in an industrial park near Hernandez's Massachusetts home. Hernandez was arrested by Massachusetts State Police, and booked at the North Attleborough Police station.

Here are the reported allegations about the investigation into Lloyd's death:

1. Odin Lloyd was shot and killed.

2. The body was found near Aaron Hernandez's house on June 17.

3. A car rented under Hernandez's name was found near the body.

4. On June 20, reports say Hernandez turned over his cell phone to authorities completely destroyed.

5.The police also searched his home on June 20, the surveillance system was also severely damaged.

The Bristol County District Attorney's office released statement saying they would not disclose charges until they were brought up in arraignment.

Michael Fee, an attorney for Hernandez, released a statement Monday night:

"Over the past week, our client, Aaron Hernandez, has been the subject of a relentless flood of rumors, misinformation, and false reports in the media. These include the repeated publication of a supposedly confirmed report that an arrest warrant had been issued for Aaron, a report that was exposed as untrue.

None of these false reports come from official sources and we appreciate the professionalism and restraint shown by the Bristol County District Attorney's Office to date with regard to its public statements while its investigation is underway. Out of respect for that ongoing investigation, we will continue to refrain from commenting on its substance."

No official documents are available to the public as the case is currently sealed, according to the Associated Press.
