Lil Wayne has been very public with his frustrations over his latest album, "Tha Carter V," not being released. On Jan. 20, the rapper dropped a mixtape titled "Sorry 4 The Wait 2" as a sort of apology. It was a sequel to his 2011 mixtape "Sorry 4 The Wait," which he released after "The Carter IV" kept getting delayed.
Part of the reason "Carter V" still hasn't hit shelves is because of Wayne's ongoing battle with Birdman (Bryan "Baby" Williams) and Cash Money Records. It's been rumored that Wayne started working on "Carter V" back in 2012 and in December he hinted on Twitter that the record label was stalling the release.
"I want off this label and nothing to do with these people but unfortunately it ain't that easy," Wayne tweeted on Dec. 4.
"To all my fans, I want u to know that my album won't and hasn't been released bekuz Baby & Cash Money Rec. refuse to release it. This is not my fault. I am truly and deeply sorry to all my fans but most of all to myself and my family for putting us in the situation," he continued. "I am a prisoner and so is my creativity Again, I am truly sorry and I don't blame ya if ya fed up with waiting 4 me & this album. But thk u. Pray."
Young Money Entertainment president Mack Main responded to Wayne's Twitter rant, telling media that the album was due out at the beginning of 2015. According to TMZ, Wayne and Birdman tried to come to an agreement earlier this week but Wayne reportedly still wasn't happy.
Sources told the site that he's now planning on going to a judge to see if he could be released from Cash Money and Birdman's control. Wayne is claiming that Birdman violated the terms of their contract by not releasing "Carter V." He's also asking for $8 million, claiming that the money is owed to him and was supposed to be an advance for the album.
According to TMZ, Birdman promises "Carter V" will be released but didn't give an exact date. Sources close to Wayne said the rapper will still be going to studio to record music but wants to release his work outside of Cash Money.
