‘The Waking Dead’ Season 5 Spoilers: Midseason Premiere Synopsis Hints at Alexandria Safe-Zone?

There are only two more weeks until the return of "The Walking Dead." Season 5 kicks off Feb. 8 on AMC and the synopsis for episode nine (the midseason premiere) leaked online. According to SpoilersGuide, the episode is titled "What Happened and What's Going On" and sees Rick Grimes and the others facing a little detour.

"After all the recent trials the group has faced, a slight detour might prove to be the solution they've been looking for," the synopsis reads.

It's long been rumored that the group was going to make it to Alexandria Safe-Zone, a walled-off town safe from zombies, in the second half of Season 5. Does it sound like Rick and company finally make it to Alexandria by the end of episode nine?

During the second half, fans should be meeting a bunch of new characters. Showrunner Scott Gimple previously told Entertainment Weekly that a lot of characters - some from the comic books, some not - would be popping up in 5B.

"We are going to see a bunch of new characters, people of significance to the show, even during the first half of the season. Yes, some people from [the comics], a bunch of people not from," he said. "And yeah, they're gonna be super significant."

AMC has not released details on the new characters but a few have managed to leak online. Check them out below:

"Mad Men's" Ross Marquand will join the cast at some point during the remaining eight episodes, but details about the character are being kept a secret. EW believes Marquand could play Aaron, a character from Robert Kikman's comic book who is gay and dating a man named Eric. Aaron meets up with Rick and the others as they make their way to Alexandria.

Joining Marquand is Alexandra Breckenridge, who played the sexy young nurse on "American Horror Story." She plays someone named Samantha, who is described as an attractive, smart and charming woman with a vulnerable side. She is also a mother.

"Sources tell THR that the actress... will recur in season five with an option to be promoted to a series in season six."
