Viz Media plans to release a collected edition of Shotaro Ishinomori's "The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past" comics, which originally ran in Nintendo Power magazine in 1992, according to a report at Game Informer.
The series is a "fast-and-loose" reworking of the plot of the Super Nintendo game of the same name, which returned "The Legend of Zelda" to one of Nintendo's premiere franchises when it was released for the SNES in 1991. The comic makes many alterations to the story, including the introduction of characters that are not in any way contained in the game itself.
Ishinomori is best known as the creator of "Super Sentai," the Japanese superhero TV series that spawned (and regurgitated/re-edited a good deal of the footage from the "Super Sentai" series) the "Power Rangers" here in the U.S.
The series was originally collected in 1993, after the story was completed, but has been out of print for many years. Considering that Dark Horse Comics' "The Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Historia," compilation/history tome is a huge seller, this reprint edition trade paperback should be a big sales win for Viz.
"The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past" is scheduled to hit the shelves on May 5.
