A man has been charged with murder following the identification of the bodies of a Georgia couple who disappeared after going to meet someone from Craigslist that supposedly had a vintage car they wanted to buy, ABC News reported on Tuesday.
Bud Runion, 69, and his wife, June, 66, went missing on Thursday after posting an ad looking for a 1966 vintage Ford Mustang convertible. They wanted to buy this car since they got married decades ago and was considered their dream car, relatives said.
Ronnie "Jay" Towns, 28, owns the phone that last contacted the Runions' phone and is now the main suspect in the case. He turned himself into police and was charged with robbery and murder. Originally, he was charged with criminal attempt to commit theft by deception and giving false information to authorities.
The couple's car was later found in a lake in an undisclosed location and their bodies turned up in another nearby location. They were both shot in the head.
"We investigated the last communications that the Runions had," said Telfair County Sheriff Chris Steverson, according to Fox News. "We traced that to a cell phone in Telfair County. And we've traced that cell phone to the purchaser of it, which was Mr. Towns."
Towns is said to have little or no prior criminal record and likely did not own a 1966 Ford Mustang.
After finding what they thought was a reputable seller, the couple took a 180-mile journey and were never seen or heard from after that. Relatives were alarmed when the couple didn't show up to watch heir grandchildren on Friday.
