A Baltimore women who struggled for 10 years with fertility treatments before finally becoming pregnant died a week after finally delivering twins.
Lisa Swinton McLaughlin, 56, gave birth via cesarean section on Dec. 27 to two healthy, but premature, babies named Jordan and Dylan, reported Daily News.
"This is something she had wanted for years," her husband Michael McLaughlin told Daily News.
After the cesarean section Lisa stayed in the hospital for four days because the doctors wanted her to have a bowel movement before she left - which she did. Lisa was discharged on Dec. 31, but when she got home she was still having stomach pains.
At first she thought the pains were from her recent cesarean section and her doctors gave her medication. She wasn't eating and she was very swollen, reported Daily News.
"She still looked like she was pregnant," Michael told Daily News.
A few days later on Jan. 4 she died in the bathroom from a bowel obstruction.
Michael has yet to see the autopsy report from his wife and is unsure if he is going to press charges on the hospital, reported Daily News.
As for now, his main focus is on his twins who are still in the hospital.
"My concern right now is to get these two guys out of the hospital," he told the Daily News. "They're doing great. They're putting on weight, they're up in the 5 pounds now."
Michael plans to raise the twins in Nebraska, which is near where his two other sons live. He took fatherhood classes at the hospital and plans to hire a nanny for extra help, reported Daily News.
