The New York Yankees and Texas Rangers meet in the Bronx on Thursday. The game starts at 1:05 p.m. ET. Listen to audio or watch the live stream HERE.
The two clubs meet on Thursday for the final outing of their three-game series. Phil Hughes (3-6, 5.09 ERA) takes the mound for the Yankees and hopes to turn his recent slump around. He posted a 13.91 ERA in losing three consecutive starts at home for the first time ever, the Associated Press reports. His last game, a 6-0 loss to the L.A. Dodgers on Wednesday, saw him give up five runs over six innings.
Despite his poor performance and the return of Ivan Nova, Yankees manager Joe Girardi hasn't decided whether Hughes will remain in the pitching rotation. Hughes isn't focused on the possible demotion.
"My only concern is pitching well," Hughes told the Yankees' team website. "Things that I can't control, I don't really concern myself with."
Although Hughes has never started at home against the Rangers, he's traditionally struggled against them - he's 0-3 with a 11.91 ERA in his last three starts against Texas.
Rangers pitcher Derek Holland (5-4, 3.43) doesn't exactly give his team an edge, either. He's 0-5 with an 8.69 ERA in seven career starts against the Yankees, including 0-3 with a 7.77 ERA in four games at Yankee Stadium.
"I know New York has been pretty tough (for me), but my job is not to worry about that," Holland told the Rangers' team website. "I need to turn the page and make something else happen."
Holland comes into the Bronx 0-2 with a 5.40 ERA in his last four starts. He gave up four runs and four hits over seven innings in a 6-4 win at St. Louis.
Fans will look to Robinson Cano to get the Yankees out of their hitting slump. He has six singles in 22 at-bats during this homestand, and he's gone a season-high 11 games without a homer.
