New York Knicks Rumors: Phil Jackson Wants Kevin Durant in 2016?

Absolutely every single team in the National Basketball Association would love to have Kevin Durant play for them. That much is obvious. Also obvious, the potential suitors coming out of the woodwork to court Durant after his contract with the Oklahoma City Thunder expires.

One such team might be the New York Knicks.

"Already there have been reports, theories and blueprints on how the Knicks will chase the Thunder's Kevin Durant in his expected free agency in the summer of 2016..." wrote Fred Kerber of the New York Post.

"Like with impending blizzards and shutting everything down, you don't wait until the last minute. So the Knicks are preparing.

"Just like the Nets and Wizards and Lakers and virtually any team with more than spare change in cap room are preparing."

Durant is the type of transformative talent that can elevate a franchise to new heights. The Knicks are the type of down-and-out franchise that could use a little elevation. Although Durant appears perfectly content in OKC, Knicks president Phil Jackson will likely do whatever it takes to work New York into the equation.

At 8-37, tied for the second worst mark in the league, the Knicks are hoping to land the No. 1 pick in the 2015 NBA draft. With that pick likely comes the opportunity to draft Duke forward Jahlil Okafor, who sits as ESPN NBA Draft Insider Chad Ford's top overall prospect. Knicks fans are hoping a healthy Carmelo Anthony, Okafor and coach Derek Fisher - whom Durant played with for two seasons - will be enough to sway the reigning MVP's opinion towards Gotham.

"I'm going to do what's best for me," Durant said of his looming free agency last summer. "It's hard to talk about that right now when I've got two years left in Oklahoma City."

It may be a pipe dream, but Knicks fans are hoping by the time 2016 rolls around, New York is what's best for Durant.
