Hernandez was arraigned on charges of murder and five gun-related offenses. Despite his lawyer arguing that he was not a flight-risk, a judge ordered Hernandez to be held without bail.
He is due at 2 p.m. in the Bristol County Superior Court in Fall River to have his bail reviewed.
Michael Fee, one of the former NFL player's lawyers, unsuccessfully argued on Wednesday that his client should be allowed bail because the evidence in the prosecution's case was "circumstantial" and "not strong."
Hernandez is reportedly being investigated for an unsolved 2012 double homicide in Boston. A second man was arrested in Connecticut on Wednesday in connection with the murder case.
