Nissan is looking to solve multiple problems in its latest recall, which includes 768,000 vehicles.
The recall, announced on Wednesday, is mostly aimed at preventing electrical shorts that can cause fires and covers of over 552,000 Rogue small SUVs made between 2008 and 2013 and Rogue Select SUV made since 2014, according to ABC News. Electrical shorts often take place when snow and salty water make their way into the driver's side carpet and come into contact with a wiring harness.
A second recall, aimed at fixing faulty hood latches, covers about 216,000 Nissan Pathfinders made in 2013 and 2014, as well as Infiniti JX35s from 2013 and QX60s from 2014. The problem with the hood latches is that they might stay open even if the hood is closed, and if dislodged can result in the hood opening up while you're driving the SUV.
Around 468,815 vehicles in the first recall are registered in the U.S., as are 170,665 vehicles in the second recall, Reuters reported.
Nissan said it has not received any reports of crashes or injuries related to either issue, though some hoods were found to have been damaged from the latch dilemma.
Dealers will be tasked with inspecting and replacing harnesses if necessary in cars with the shorting issue, as well as changing the hood release mechanism angle and making the release cable longer in cars with the latch problem, ABC News reported. These fixes will be made free of charge to the owners of these vehicles.
