A Massachusetts civilian made a horrific discovery after "human body parts" washed up near a lobster trap in Swampscott beach on Wednesday morning.
An unidentified man found the human remains while he was out for a walk on King's Beach on Wednesday, the Associated Press reported. The person immediately alerted police authorities, who are now investigating the gruesome find.
"A civilian walking on Kings Beach this morning reported finding body parts to Swampscott Police. The body parts were found near a lobster trap that appears to have washed up on shore," Essex District Attorney Jonathan Blodgett said in a released statement.
The body parts, found near a lobster trap, might have washed ashore during the high surf caused by the Blizzard of 2015, the Essex County District Attorney's Office said.
Massachusetts State Police detectives assigned to Blodgett's office, other state troopers and Swampscott police were at the scene to investigate on Wednesday morning, according to CBS News.
Currently, the body parts are being examined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in an effort to determine an identity, Blodgett said.
"The body parts will be examined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for identification," district attorney spokeswoman Carrie Kimball Monahan said in a statement. "It is too early to speculate as to possible identity."
Meanwhile no other information was immediately available.
