Keno, a playful 6-month-old wire-hair terrior who was left in an abandoned box with his brother a Las Vegas animal shelter, will have his dream-come-true next month when he participates in Animal Planet's "Puppy Bowl."
Shelter volunteers who found Keno quickly started sending out applications for their new furry friend to appear on the popular show. After several rounds of interviews, Keno got his treat.
"It's like a little Cinderella story," Kathy Jung, Nevada S.P.C.A president, who was among the shelter workers who sent out Keno's applications, told Fox News.
One of the most exciting parts of the "Puppy Bowl" is that every dog is a winner - all the dogs selected are rescue dogs and they usually find adoptive parents quick after appearing on the annual Animal Planet program.
The shelter volunteers tell Fox News that while Keno has a feel-good story, it's also a very real reminder that animals are neglected every day.
"With the economy we had a lot of people that were abandoning their dogs, a lot of neglect cases," volunteer Claire Ramsey told Fox News. "I leave here feeling like I just had the best day and chills - or I drive home crying."
The volunteers say that Keno's spunky personality could help open people's eyes that there are plenty of friendly, playful dogs in animal shelters looking for a home, reported Fox News.
"It shows that homelessness doesn't discriminate," Jung told Fox News. "There's some great, great dogs in the animal shelters all over the country."
To see Keno in the "Puppy Bowl" tune in to Animal Planet on Feb. 1.
