The Steve Jobs film written by Aaron Sorkin and directed by Danny Boyle has finally locked in its cast. Production started in San Francisco on Wednesday.
The movie, officially titled "Steve Jobs," will star Michael Fassbender as the computer genius and co-founder of Apple, according to Universal Pictures (via /Film). Fassbender won the role after Christian Bale dropped out and Leonardo DiCaprio passed on the part.
Sorkin worked from Walter Isaacson's biography on Jobs and focused his story on the backstage events of three iconic product launches, ending with the presentation of the iMac in 1998. "The film takes us behind the scenes of the digital revolution to paint an intimate portrait of the brilliant man at its epicenter," according to Universal.
Fassbender's co-stars include Kate Winslet as Joanna Hoffman, the former marketing chief of Macintosh; Seth Rogen as Steve Wozniak, the other co-founder of Apple; and Jeff Daniels as former Apple CEO John Sculley. Katherine Waterston joins as Chrisann Brennan, an ex-girlfriend of Jobs, and Andy Hertzfeld will play one of the original members of the Apple Macintosh development team.
Other cast members include Perla Haney-Jardine, Ripley Sobo, Mackenzie Moss as a young Lisa Brennan throughout various stages of her life, Sarah Snook as Andrea Cunningham, and Adam Shapiro as Avie Tevanian.
Universal Pictures has not set a release date for the film.
