Rapper 2 Chainz (real name Tauheed Epps) is strongly considering running for mayor. The 37-year-old first hinted at a future in politics to XXL Magazine saying that people started urging him to look into it after his verbal smackdown with Nancy Grace over the legalization of weed.
If Chainz decides to run he'll be gunning for mayor of his hometown College Park, Ga.
"I'm a musician, not a politician," he said. "I'm supposed to be running for mayor in College Park. I got everybody wishing. I'm really gonna do this little mayor thing in College Park. I'm just trying to make sure I have the right qualifications."
"We'll see where the future lies for me, but you know, everything I do gotta be organic," Chainz added.
Chainz also did an interview with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and reiterated his interest in becoming mayor.
"I am looking forward to running at the end of this year or next year. [I'm] waiting to see if I meet all of the qualifications," he said.
While the "Birthday Song" rapper does have a pretty impressive background when it comes to schooling - he graduated with a 4.0 from Alabama State University while on a basketball scholarship - current College Park mayor Jack Longino told the Daily Beast that Chainz is not qualified because he doesn't live in the town.
Longino, who has been in office since 1996, also didn't seem too worried about the competition, telling the newspaper that if Chainz did move to College Park "and wants to run and sign up, we'll let the people decide."
"I will continue to stand on my record and what I've accomplished in College Park," he said.
According to the Daily Beast, Longino also admitted that he had no idea who Chainz was until the rapper started talking about becoming mayor.
"I didn't know who he was, but I'm not a rapper," he said. "I'm a country-western guy. I don't listen to the rap."
