Kentucky remained unbeaten after defeating South Carolina on Saturday, 58-43. The 19-0 Wildcats have had close calls this season, such as their 70-64 win at Texas A&M on Jan. 10, but the experiences have only seemed to strengthen coach John Calipari's young team, teaching them how to play in hostile environments and how to focus on not beating themselves.
"It's totally different. It's a road game," Wildcats freshman guard Devin Booker told the school website, via ESPN. "So our fans back at Rupp (Arena), they helped us a lot during that gam, so I feel like their fans are going to try to do the same for them, so we just have to play against ourselves again. That's been like the topic of the season is playing against ourselves and not worrying about who our opponent is."
Booker accounted for 18 points in the game against South Carolina, and sophomore guard Aaron Harrison, who leads the team in scoring with 11.6 points per game, added 13.
The unranked Tigers, meanwhile, are 7-12 and looking to snap their five-game losing streak. Their latest defeat came on Saturday in a close 61-60 loss at home to Arkansas. Freshman guard Montaque Gill-Caesar had 16 points and sophomore forward Johnathan Williams III had 15 points and 10 rebounds, but their efforts weren't enough to overcome the Razorbacks.
"It's frustrating but we just have to keep pushing, keep looking forward, and stay focused," said Williams. "We have to keep working every day and keep praying about it. It'll get turned around."
