Suge Knight turned himself in to Los Angeles police and was officially arrested early Friday morning for the death of his friend. According to TMZ, the Death Row Records founder got into an altercation late Thursday night with two other men at a movie set in Compton, Calif.
Witnesses said Knight pulled up to the set in his car but was told by security to leave. Allegedly, that's when a fight broke out between the three guys. Sources said Knight then got back into his car, threw it into reverse and ran over one of the guys.
He allegedly then put the car in drive and ran over the man again as he sped off. The victim, identified as Terry Carter, died from his injuries. Sources said another man was also hit with the car and taken to the hospital but suffered non-life threatening injuries.
According to TMZ, Carter was walking to the passenger side of Knight's vehicle when he was run over. Sources told TMZ that Carter and Knight were friends and he had arrived to the movie set location with the hip-hop mogul. Some believe the incident was merely an accident. Knight's attorney, James Blatt, told Page Six that the mogul was trying to flee the attackers and he didn't mean to run over his friend.
"We are confident that once the investigation is completed, he will be totally exonerated," Blatt said.
At first, Los Angeles police had issued a bulletin for Knight to question him about the hit-and-run but he turned himself in to police early Friday morning. According to TMZ, he was formerly arrested for murder charges following the questioning and is being held on a $2 million bail.
Reportedly, there was another fight that broke out involving Knight and the two men at a gas station near the movie set. After he fled the scene, Knight's truck was spotted abandoned in a Los Angeles parking lot.
Last summer Knight was shot six times at a nightclub in California and was rushed to the hospital back in November for blood clots.
